Civil Defense logo - looking for

February 11, 2008

I was looking for Civil Defense logo (CD meant something else in the 1950s). I thought these sites were worth marking:

Google found a logo here: http://www.factropolis.com/uploaded_images/CivilDefenseLogoFinal-705903.jpg

http://www.civildefensemuseum.com/ - Fallout shelter tours, etc

Learn to build a bomb shelter - government publications from the GPO, you paid for them! - http://www.cddc.vt.edu/host/atomic/civildef/index.html

The “Duck and Cover” video, with the turtle - http://www.cddc.vt.edu/host/atomic/civildef/duckncvr.html

http://www.kshs.org/cool2/foodkit.htm - CD food kit from the 1950s

Unfortunately, the logo I am looking for was officially replaced in 2006 - http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/01/washington/01civil.html?_r=1&oref=slogin

Good images, odd content on the web site, didnt look too much - http://www.orange-papers.org/orange-rroot390.html

http://www.backwoodshome.com/columns/benson0201.html - survivalism. I need the ‘CD’ logo for purpose, right?

XP exposed? And it is by one of its strongest proponents…

I just ran across this, it was posted a month or two ago on the xprogramming.com site. Interesting admission of failure, and one shouldn’t blame the failings of a particular methodology on the failings of a single project. The author of the article, is definitely concerned about what happened and wanted to share it with the community. It suppose the alternative, blaming Ruby on Rails, would be beyond the pale.

Pretty upset over some article posted in an online biz rag:

Many paths up the ladder

February 11, 2008

Interesting article, shows that credentials aren’t everything, if they sometimes even mean anything. I think today though as opposed to 10 years or more ago, a more ‘traditional’ path up the ladder is required. The examples are from smaller enterprises and government, not large corporations. Also, foreign cultures are much more demanding of formal credentials and paths than us.

PETA vs Colonel Sanders

February 11, 2008

This will be taken as another joke at PETA’s expense (not to defend or malign their tactics in any way), but also you have to wonder at these bills legislators write. Doesn’t Kentucky have real issues that need to be addressed?

This reminds of something, maybe it says something about fried chicken, the Colonel and Kentucky. When the old NBA team in my town, the (now they’re pretty good) Hornets, were packing up and leaving town on a rail, Kentucky was one of the suitors. As I recall, they would have played in a new arena in Louisville called “The Bucket.”

State Rep. Charles Siler is sponsoring legislation to assign the designation to KFC’s “finger lickin’ good” chicken, first served by Colonel Harland Sanders in 1940.The late colonel’s fried chicken deserves the title because of the worldwide attention and economic benefit it has brought to the state, Siler said. KFC, a subsidiary of Louisville-based Yum Brands Inc., has 11,000 restaurants in more than 80 countries.
