PETA vs Colonel Sanders

February 11, 2008

This will be taken as another joke at PETA’s expense (not to defend or malign their tactics in any way), but also you have to wonder at these bills legislators write. Doesn’t Kentucky have real issues that need to be addressed?

This reminds of something, maybe it says something about fried chicken, the Colonel and Kentucky. When the old NBA team in my town, the (now they’re pretty good) Hornets, were packing up and leaving town on a rail, Kentucky was one of the suitors. As I recall, they would have played in a new arena in Louisville called “The Bucket.”

State Rep. Charles Siler is sponsoring legislation to assign the designation to KFC’s “finger lickin’ good” chicken, first served by Colonel Harland Sanders in 1940.The late colonel’s fried chicken deserves the title because of the worldwide attention and economic benefit it has brought to the state, Siler said. KFC, a subsidiary of Louisville-based Yum Brands Inc., has 11,000 restaurants in more than 80 countries.
