June 16, 2008

A businessman was sentenced Monday to nearly three years in prison for conspiring to export sensitive military components to India.

Parthasarathy Sudarshan, 47, pleaded guilty in March to one count of conspiracy. He admitted to a scheme to conceal the true destination for electronic parts used in missile guidance systems and jet fighters and for night vision filters used in combat aircraft.

Sudarshan, of Simpsonville, S.C., was sentenced to 35 months in prison.

According to papers filed in the case, Sudarshan coordinated with and took direction from a coconspirator who was identified only as an Indian government official in Washington.
